The next Economic
Development Today telecast is scheduled for Wednesday, July 27 at 3PM EDT
on the theme of "Building a 21st Century, World-Class Workforce." This
telecast will showcase bold new initiatives in the expansion of workforce
development systems for maintaining America's economic strength. The
demand for higher-skill, higher-wage workers exceeds that of any time in our
nation's past. New industries have emerged. Other industries that today
are just a gleam in the eye of some inventor will soon be woven into the
fabric of our economy. The constant of commerce in the 21st century will
be the need for knowledge workers, people who possess high levels of
specialized skills and training. America
must ensure that its workers have the opportunity to succeed in a new and
dynamic global economy. This will require local, regional, state and federal
partnerships that closely link economic development and workforce development
efforts. The show
will include discussion on what it takes to build a world-class workforce,
including an example of a new, streamlined workforce development system in
the state of Mississippi; how a community college is putting these concepts
into practice; and the private sector perspective. Panelists
include:
