911 Services

Emergency Alert System (EAS)

Commercial Mobile Alert System

In April 2008, the Commission adopted technical requirements for a Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS) - a system by which commercial mobile service (CMS) providers may transmit emergency alerts to their subscribers, if they choose to do so. Learn More >>

Special Temporary Authority (STA)

STAs are issued in emergency situations, i.e., natural disasters, of communications restoration, or other short term operations. STAs may also be granted if an applicant can demonstrate extraordinary circumstances that require immediate communications and the applicant cannot wait for the normal licensing process to conclude.    Learn More >>
