- Collaborative testbed projects will shorten the
time from research to operations and help transition meteorological research
into useful operational forecasting tools.
The collective knowledge gained from interactions at the NOAA Hazardous Weather Testbed (HWT) will result in better severe-weather forecasts and important contributions to scientific literature. - Testbeds improve the nation's hazardous weather
warning services by bringing together forecasters, researchers, trainers,
developers, and user groups to test and evaluate new techniques, applications,
observing platorms and technologies.
The HWT/Experimental Warning Program (HWT/EWP) will carry out proof-of-concept tests using multi-sensor systems like WDSS-II and a 3-D lightning mapping array, and develop ways to integrate high-resolution radar data and GIS information into warning decision-making and severe storms verification. - Interactions between forecasters and researchers
gives forecasters direct access to the latest research developments while
imparting scientists with the knowledge to formulate research strategies
that will have practical benefits.
Forecasters participating in an NSSL/SPC Spring Experiment get a first-hand look at the latest research concepts and products, while research scientists learn to recognize the challenges, needs, and constraints of front-line forecasters.
