Marine Industry Standards Library

NMREC's Marine Industry Standards Library provides technical assistance to U.S. shipbuilders, ship repair facilities, and marine equipment suppliers in identifying and obtaining domestic and international industry standards.  The technical staff will investigate questions and assist the industry in the areas of standards and how they compare, relate, and their applications to shipbuilding and the marine industry.

The Library has industry standards, rules, regulations, codes, and other information.  These are the copyright protected standards currently available for on-site review:

  • The Aluminum Association, Inc. (AA)

  • American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA)

  • American National Standards Institute (ANSI)

  • American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)

  • American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)

  • American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)

  • American Welding Society, Inc. (AWS)

  • Department of Defense (DoDIS)

  • Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)

  • International Maritime Organization (IMO)

  • International Organization for Standardization (ISO)

To use the services of the Library or if you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Sharon Nielsen at the Maritime Administration (MARAD) Headquarters in Washington, DC.  The services are available Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. EST.  Mrs. Nielsen can be reached by phone on 202-366-1864, by fax on 202-366-7197, and by e-mail at Sharon.Nielsen@dot.gov.
