HURRICANE RELIEF EFFORT UPDATE

Hurricane History

NERT Response

Hurricane Katrina slammed onto the Louisiana coast with winds of 145 miles per hour and heavy rains as a powerful Category 4 storm.  It then headed north, missing a direct hit on New Orleans while hitting the Mississippi coastline.

NERT activated its disaster mode in response to Hurricane ‘Katrina’.  We will be working with other members of the National Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster to help people get back on their feet.  This outreach is directed mostly to those people and areas with needs that will not be taken care of by insurance or other federal or state programs.

Maine VOAD members, Good Shepherd Food Bank, New Beginnings National Disaster Relief Inc., and NERT teamed up to ship food, water, and other materials along with an Emergency Mobil Trailer Unit (EMTU) for housing to New Orleans.

NERT EMTU for housing located at Lake Charles, Louisiana for work crews distributing water, food, and other necessities to the public with assistance from the National Guard.

NERT EMTU located at Hammond, Louisiana (Convoy of Hope Warehouse) that houses warehouse crews distributing supplies to Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas areas affected by the hurricane.

Gifts marked, Katrina Relief Effort, will go 100% direct to support victims of Hurricane Katrina.
