My question is about the pictures taken on mars. Why does NASA change the coloring throughout the pictures to make them look red?
If think about it, the are three different ways we could present Mars color. The least red version would be to present the color of the surface as it would look illuminated by the Sun with a perfectly transparent atmosphere. The second version would be the color you would see standing on Mars, with the illumination of sunlight reddened by passing through the atmosphere of Mars. The third option is the color you would see through a telescope or with a camera in orbit around Mars; this is the most red because the light has passed twice through the atmosphere. All are red, but to different degrees, and who is to say which is "correct"? David Morrison
