Welcome to Your Coastal Bend - Texas Chapter
American Red Cross

The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers, guided by
its Congressional Charter and the
Fundamental Principles of the International
Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disaster and helps people
prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

As you are aware, yesterday the World Health Organization raised the pandemic influenza alert level to 5 on its six-point scale showing
increasing concern about the swine flu (H1N1) outbreak. To help you understand the issue and how to protect yourself,
here is a direct link to our Flu Checklist.  And, for other helpful information please read the following.

  • The American Red Cross is monitoring the developing situation with this swine flu (H1N1 flu) outbreak and is in close contact with local, state and federal officials, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Department of Homeland Security, and local health departments.
  • Stocking extra food, water and supplies at home will reduce the need to go out should this swine flu strain become more widespread and schools or businesses temporarily close.
  • The Red Cross recommends storing a two-week supply of food, water and household necessities such as laundry detergent and toilet paper. A gallon of water per person per day should be stored in clean plastic containers. Family preparation steps should also include storing formula for infants, food for special nutritional needs, essential medicines and medical items, and extra food for pets.

For additional information please go to:  www.redcross.org

If you, your business, corporation, organization, association, foundation or school would like to learn
more about how you can help "Save the Day" and sponsor local famlies as they begin their recovery after experiencing the tragedy of a single-family disaster. Please click here to learn more.

All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and
money from the American people. You can help the victims of local disasters and hundreds of other disasters
across the community each year by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross Coastal Bend-Texas
Chapter, which enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to those in need. Call 361-887-9991. Contributions to the Coastal Bend-Texas Chapter may be sent to P.O. Box 3429, Corpus Christi, Texas 78463 or through a secured online donation at
