What is Transportation Service?
Transportation Service is transporting a client to and from community resources
identified during client assessment.
Who needs Transportation Service?
You may need Transportation if you:
- Have no access to a working licensed vehicle or a valid drivers license
- Are unable to drive due to physical or cognitive limitation
- Are unable to secure transportation from relatives, friends, or other organizations at
no cost
Do I qualify for Transportation Services?
You may qualify if you are:
- Low income
- Medicaid eligible
You must first qualify for a DHHS program that has Transportation Services and a worker
must determine that you need this service.

Where can I get transportation to take me?
You may get transportation for things like:
- Going to medical appointments
- Nutrition needs (for example, grocery shopping and participating in nutrition programs)
- Your appointments or functions required by:
- Department of Health and Human Services for benefit programs
- Social Security Administration
- Veteran's Administration
- Financial institutions
- Locating housing
- Going to attorneys, Legal Aid Societies
- Other needs identified during your assessment, like attending adult day services or receiving out-of-home respite services. These needs must relate to
maintaining your independence.
Are there situations where I cannot use transportation service?
Programs do not pay for transportation for socializing, recreation, religious activities,
or other trips which would be appropriate for volunteer transportation providers.
