Link posted 8 January 2008. Earth Sciences Fellowships. The National Science Foundation’s Division of Earth Sciences (EAR) awards Postdoctoral Fellowships to highly qualified investigators within three years of obtaining their PhD to carry out an integrated program of independent research and education. The research and education plans of each fellowship must address scientific questions within the scope of EAR disciplines. The program supports researchers for a period of up to two years with fellowships that can be taken to the institution or national facility of their choice. Application deadline is 8 January 2008, 28 July 2008, and the last Monday in July annually thereafter.

The National Science Foundation’s Postdoctoral Fellowships in Polar Regions Research program supports training and research for recent doctoral degree recipients in any aspect of scientific study of the Antarctic and/or the Arctic within the Office of Polar Programs (OPP) program areas. The program also provides travel grants to those eligible for fellowships for the purpose of meeting prospective mentors and colleagues, presenting seminars, discussing mutual research and/or education interests, evaluating facilities and professional development opportunities, and initiating collaborative relationships. Applications due by 11 January 2008 or 18 August 2008.

The purpose of the NNEMS program is to provide students with practical research opportunities and experiences in an EPA office or laboratory, increase public awareness of and involvement in environmental issues, encourage qualified individuals to pursue environmental careers, and to help defray the costs associated with the pursuit of academic programs related to the field of environmental protection, such as pollution control, science, engineering, technology, social science, and specialty areas. Applications due 22 January 2008.

Link posted 8 January 2008.NASA Earth and Space Science Fellowship (NESSF) Program. This call for graduate fellowship proposals solicits applications from accredited U.S. Universities on behalf of individuals pursuing Masters or Doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees in Earth and space sciences, or related disciplines, at respective institutions. The purpose of NESSF is to ensure continued training of a highly qualified workforce in disciplines needed to achieve NASA’s scientific goals. Awards resulting from the competitive selection will be made in the form of training grants to the respective universities with the advisor serving as the principal investigator. Applications are due by 1 February 2008.

The Graduate Fellowship Program awards at least two new PhD fellowships each year to students who are interested in careers related to the population dynamics of living marine resources and the development and implementation of quantitative methods for assessing their status. Applications due 28 February 2008.

The Knauss Fellowship is a program initiated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Sea Grant Office (NSGO), in fulfilling its broad educational responsibilities and legislative mandate of the Sea Grant Act, to provide educational experience in the policies and processes of the Legislative and Executive Branches of the Federal Government to graduate students in marine and aquatic-related fields.
