Who Supports COA?

The same type of people who choose COA for their education, work here as professor or staff, or serve as a trustee: Those who believe a better world is possible. Those who would rather roll up their sleeves than throw up their hands. Those who believe a sustainable world is worth working towards. Those who know a carbon footprint isn't something you see in the snow. Those who understand education for education's sake makes sense. Those who know complex problems need thoughtful, creative solutions. Those who believe the wonder of wild places like Acadia National Park should be preserved.

If you want to make a difference, there are a hundred ways to do so. Come join us.

Over 75??? Tax-free Giving From Your IRA

Individual Retirement Account (IRA) owners age 70 ½ or older may continue to make a donation from their distribution (up to $100,000) directly to College of the Atlantic - tax free.

President Bush has now signed into law the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 (H.R. 1424), which includes an extension of the IRA Charitable Rollover that expired at the end of 2007.

The two-year extension was made retroactive to January 1, 2008, and will apply to charitable gifts made from that date through December 31, 2009.

IRA assets may be subject to estate and income taxes, so this is a unique opportunity to avoid both taxes.

Please check with your financial advisor to see if you qualify.
