FOR RELEASE: October 3, 1994 CONTACT: Lee Scurry (202) 208-3983 MMS AWARDS $400,000 TO TECHNOR, INC. (#40073) The U.S. Department of the Interior's Minerals Management Service (MMS) has awarded a $399,980 contract to Technor, Inc. of Livermore, California, to continue work on a process to reduce nitrogen oxide gas emissions from engines operating on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS), MMS Acting Director Cynthia Quarterman announced today. "In our effort to ensure safe and clean operations on the OCS," said Quarterman, "MMS constantly seeks out improvements that will reduce environmental risks. Reducing nitrogen oxide gas emissions would greatly improve industry's ability to meet the emissions requirements of the Clean Air Act. "Technor previously demonstrated that their process can be applied successfully to gas turbine exhaust in a laboratory," she said. "This two-year study should result in those concepts being formulated into an actual turbine installation." The study is a continuation of previous work to evaluate a process, which was developed and patented by Technor's founder and president, Robert Perry. Including the previous award, Technor has received nearly $700,000 in MMS funding. MMS administers the federal offshore minerals programs and manages the mineral royalty collection program for federal and Indian lands. -MMS- Subject: PR-10/3/94 Technor, Inc./MMS Awards $400K to Technor, Inc.
