PURPOSE OF POSITION

In coordination with other professional staff, assist in the management and supervision of residents. To ensure a safe, structured, and therapeutic residential treatment environment. Support the organization and program philosophy of care; ensure the safety and well-being of each resident.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS of the RESIDENT ASSISTANT II:

• Supervise and assist residents in daily program activities such as: community meetings, school, group, recreation, meals, outings, etc.
• Supervise, protect, and care for residents individually and in groups at all times.
• Assist each resident in working with a group and in handling individual problems.
• Administration of discipline and setting limits for behavior for residents.
• Notation of the resident’s progress, identification of the possible need for professional
services, and communication of such findings to professional staff.
• Oversee and coordinate residents’ personal health, hygiene, and living skills.
• Implement and manage the program’s therapeutic and behavioral management system.
• Provide crisis intervention and management of aggressive or difficult behavior.
• Transport residents when necessary.
• Chart daily progress notes and maintain all required documentation.
• Demonstrate conduct in maintaining current ethical standards. Comply with facility safety, infection control, injury prevention, and security protocols. Supports facility internal and external customer service standards.
• Participates in mandatory orientation and training activities.
• Adhere to agency policies and procedures and advances the goals of UAII in a manner that embodies the agency’s philosophy.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of client and personnel information.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Other duties as assigned or required to fulfill the purpose of the position.


QUALIFICATIONS – Required

• One year of direct experience in an adolescent group home, residential treatment center, or hospital as a child care worker, mental health worker, etc
• Availability to work evening and weekend hours as required.
• Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in a behavioral or social science.
• Clear background check.
• Must be able to deal with aggressive, hostile and irrational behavior of residents calmly and therapeutically.
• Must be able to respond immediately to crisis situations concerning residents and/or family members.
• Responsible and able to comply with all applicable federal, state, or municipal laws, statues, or ordinances.
• Must follow all licensing, accreditation, and certification requirements.
• A self starter who is able to work independently and as a team member; who consistently demonstrates professionalism, courtesy, efficiency, excellent internal and external customer service, high ethical standards and behavior that contributes to harmonious relationships.
• Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability or willingness to work with culturally diverse populations, youth, and professionals.
• Knowledge of and/or sensitivity to the needs of the American Indian community/culture.
• Willingness to learn new skills and participate in training sessions relevant to the position.
• Valid California driver’s license and automobile insurance.

QUALIFICATIONS – Preferred

• Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (Public Law 93-638).
• Experience working with the American Indian community.
• Two years sobriety for non-supervisory positions.
• Five years sobriety for supervisory positions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam and blood/urine screening test.
• Able to perform the following tasks during the work day: reading, writing, speaking, listening, typing, sitting, standing, walking and driving a car.
• Current inactive/negative Tuberculosis test/X-Ray result on file.
