MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The ARNP functions in the medical clinic receiving referrals from primary care providers, pharmacy and mental health specialists. The ARNP conducts assessments, prescribes any needed psychiatric medications and monitors the patient in follow-up, in collaboration with the PCP and MH Specialist
Primary Job Duties Include:
1. Consulting with the treatment staff about clients considered dually diagnosed who might benefit from mental health counseling.
2. Assessing clients individually for psychiatric diagnoses and providing the appropriate treatment: i.e., outside referral, continued counseling and/or evaluation for mediation.
3. Initiation of psychiatric medications and on-going medication management.
4. In-service education to the healthcare staff concerning psychiatric medications.
5. Provides psychiatric assessment of patients and evaluates the need for medications, lab studies, medication changes and prescribes accordingly and as licensed by law.
6. Provides medication evaluation for clients recently discharges from hospitals.
7. Carries a caseload of patients and sees them routinely for medication management and psychiatric assessment.
8. Provides crisis medication evaluation upon request and as schedule allows.
9. Consults with the psychiatrist on clinically complicated cases.
10. Participates in case staffings at least two times monthly and more often as schedule allows. Receives clinical supervisions from the psychiatrist, collaborates with the patient's primary care provider and mental health specialist as needed.
11. Demonstrates a thorough working knowledge of DSM-IV TR.
12. Completes charting in a timely manner with appropriated documentation. Makes recommendations on mental health service improvements. Makes formulary change recommendations to the Pharmacy Lead. Participates in MH team meetings. Phar macy and Therapeutics, interdisciplinary staff meeting or trainings as scheduled.
Required Qualifications:
• Current licensure in Washington State as a Clinical Nurse Specialist Psychiatric/Mental Health ARNP with prescriptive authority.
• Two years experience in community clinic mental health setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with health and social issues facing American Indians/Alaska Natives and a desire to promote the delivery of appropriate health services to this population.
Necessary Special Requirements: The selected candidate must pass a thorough background investigation.
