Is fulgorite associated with meteorites, and if so, what kind of microbial life, if any, is associated with it?
According to Dr. Jack Farmer from Arizona State's Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, a fulgarite is not at all associated with meteorites. Rather, a fulgarite is the results of lightening striking the ground and generating temperatures that are high enough to fuse sand grains or melt rock (the melt then cools to form a glass). Obviously, this process leaves little room for the influence of microbes. In fact, any organisms present during the lightening strike would be vaporized.
