Keystone Sanitation Landfill Superfund Site Restoration Project Completed Date Posted: August 7, 2008 The Service's Pennsylvania Field Office completed one of the two selected restoration projects for the Keystone Sanitation Landfill Superfund Site. The project consisted of conserving, via a permanent easement, approximately 350 acres of high quality upland forest. The site includes older hemlocks and white pine, along with several headwater streams and spring seep wetland habitats. Conservation of this property adds lands to one of the largest unprotected woodland areas remaining in Adams County. The property will function as a connective greenway to Michaux State Forest, which lies a few miles to the west. The conserved area was identified as a priority for preservation by local citizens and planning, preservation, and natural resource organizations. The site provides quality habitat for a number of species including: bobcat, black bear, wild turkey, bald eagle, barred owl, osprey, and brook trout.
