New Jersey Wastewater Treatment Plant Chemical-Monitoring Plan Developed Date Posted: September 3, 2008 New Jersey Field Office staff met with the Senior Project Manager for the proposed Branchville Area Wastewater Treatment Facilities in Sussex County to develop a chemical-monitoring plan ensuring protection of a dwarf wedge mussel population downstream of the proposed treatment facility. The plan, to be implemented over the life of the facility, will monitor chemicals such as platicizers, estrogens and other known endocrine disruptors, a variety of non-prescription drugs, brominated fire retardants, ammonia, and heavy metals. Additional discussions were begun on how to monitor fish populations essential in the dwarf wedge mussel's life cycle to detect adverse effects from exposure to substances not removed in the wastewater treatment process, particularly endocrine-disrupting chemicals
