SmarTrip® Is Here!

The SmarTrip® card now works on Ride On!  This convenient electronic card makes travel on transit in the region seamless and now saves you money.  With SmarTrip®, travelers can pay for Metrorail, Metrobus, Ride On and parking at Metro stations, all with the convenient touch of a card. Customers can check balances and add money to the card on buses as well as at Metro stations.  SmarTrip is a permanent, rechargeable fare card. PASSES / TOKENS

Exact fare required. RIDE On fare boxes accept coins or bills. Operator does not make change or accept money. If farebox is not functioning, passenger rides free.

2-WEEK RIDE-ABOUT PASS  * See important notice above

Ride On's 2-Week Ride-About pass costs $10.00. The 2-week pass is valid for a specific 2-week period, beginning on a Sunday and ending on a Saturday. The Pass is valid on Ride On only. Passengers who ride both Ride On and Metrobus should purchase a Metrobus Weekly pass. Passes are available at Giant Food Stores in the County, most County Centers and the EOB, 101 Monroe St. 5th Floor, Rockville Maryland.

  • The  20 Trip Ticket is good through December 31, 2008.

  • Each trip is valued at $1.35. Tickets are valid on Ride On only. The 20-Trip Ticket is available at most County Centers, libraries, EOB, Giant Food Stores in the County and Sales Outlet Locations where you can buy tickets in person.

    RIDERS WITH DISABILITIES

    Disabled customers with valid Metro Disabled identification card RIDE FREE. If a disabled customer has a Metro attendant-eligible ID, an attendant may ride free with the ID holder as well during those hours.

    To obtain this fare, the customer must show bus operators identification issued by Metro (see sample below).

    For consistency with Metro’s policy, Ride On offers free rides to MetroAccess certified customers and one companion who must board and alight at the same stop as the customer. Riders must present identification (see sample below). MetroAccess is the name of the ADA paratransit service for the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. To register or to obtain information about how you may participate in this program, please call MetroAccess at 301-562-5370. For more information, access WMATA’s MetroAccess.

    SENIOR/DISABLED IDENTIFICATION CARD

    Cards are issued by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). If you are 65 years of age or older, bring proof of age such as your birth certificate, driver's license or passport to any local public library (within the transit zone) or any METRO Sales office to fill out a Metro Senior ID application. Applications can also be completed at senior centers and the Transit Information Center at 101 Monroe St., 5th Floor, Rockville Maryland. more information.

    National Capital Regional One Day Bus Pass

  • Travel all day on RIDE ON, Metrobus, or any of the local bus lines (DASH, Fairfax Connector, CUE, ART, The BUS, Connect-A-Ride, and PRTC OmniRide) for $3.00. Transfer may be used for the remainder of the day on which it is purchased. Purchase the Regional One Day Bus Pass from your bus operator.

    If you use a Ride On 20 Trip ticket to purchase a Regional One Day Pass, the operator will punch the ticket TWICE and you will be asked to pay an additional 50¢ to make up for the $3.00.
    ((2x1.25 = 2.50) + 50¢) = 3.00 One Day Pass fare.

    MONTHLY YOUTH CRUISER PASS

    The Monthly Cruiser Pass now costs only $10.00 and may only be used by riders 18 years and younger. The Pass is valid for RIDE ON only; no transfers are issued. Available online, by mail (add $1 handling fee) ort the  Transit Information Center, 101 Monroe St. 5th Floor. Rockville Maryland 20850. Proof of age and exact change required for purchase. Passengers who use both RIDE ON and Metrobus  should purchase a Metrobus Weekly Pass.

    SUMMER YOUTH CRUISER PASS
    County residents 18 and younger can take unlimited rides between June 1 and August 31 for only $15. This is half off the Regular Youth Cruiser Pass fare of $10 a month.
    The Summer Youth Cruiser Pass is available for purchase:

    Online – by clicking on this link to “buying a fare media online” and follow the directions.
    By Mail: Print the form (here), complete it, and mail it to the address in the form with required document
    Walk-in: Visit any County Regional Centers, or at the Commuter Store in Silver Spring.
    Please bring proof of age (passport or birth certificate.) Credit card payments are only accepted with mail-in orders.

    TOKENS

    RIDE ON or Metrobus tokens are accepted for one ride. A token is valued at $1.35. Tokens may be combined with cash to purchase a $3.00 Regional One Day Bus Pass.
    Tokens may be bought at County Centers and the Montgomery County Executive Office Building (EOB) 101 Monroe Street, 5th floor, Rockville Maryland.

    TRANSFERS . . . 

    • RIDE ON bus transfers are free upon request at the time you pay your fare. RIDE ON transfers are good for two hours after the bus is scheduled at the end of the line. The RIDE ON transfer may be used on any RIDE ON bus, in any direction, at any stop until the time for which it has been cut has expired.

    • RIDE ON accepts Metrobus and other local bus transfers at any stop on any route until its expiration time.

    • Metrobus accepts RIDE ON and other local bus transfers at any stop in their system.

    • Metrorail transfers from the station where you entered the the Metrorail, are now accepted by RIDE ON at your exit station with 35¢ payment. Seniors and disabled customers ride free at the exit station with a valid Metrorail transfer.

    • Obtain transfer from the operator when you board your bus.

    • Metrorail transfer is issued by the transfer issuing machine located at every Metro station, the station attendant will help you to locate it.

    • Seniors and persons with disabilities do not have to pay 35¢ extra when using the Metrorail-to-bus transfer.
