Recreational Fishing Data Meeting
NOAA Fisheries Service hosted a joint meeting with State Fish and Game Agency Directors and members of the saltwater sportfishing community on March 28-30, 2006 in Arlington, Virginia to address several issues related to recreational fisheries. The highlight of the meeting was the release of the National Academy of Sciences 16-month independent review of NOAA’s recreational data program (NOAA Press Release and National Academy of Sciences' Report). Magnuson-Stevens Act reauthorization, recreational economics, and budget issues were also discussed at the meeting. The event was part of the Agency’s ongoing commitment to work more closely with state partners and stakeholders from the sportfishing community.
