Airborne Magnetic Data |
NGDC's aeromagnetic program focuses on global data to support modeling of Earth's magnetic field. The U.S. aeromagnetic data are now updated and available from the USGS Geophysical Products web. NGDC continues to archive and serve data for main field modeling. These data are described below. NGDC's aeromagnetic trackline inventory is available on-line. High Altitude Surveys:High altitude surveys are normally flown at altitudes above 10,000 feet above the ground. From 1951 through 1994, the U.S. Navy, under its Project Magnet program, continuously collected vector aeromagnetic survey data to support the U.S. world magnetic modeling and charting needs. NGDC is the designated national archive for these data.
Some Special Collections:U.S. Magnetic/Gravity data sourcesThe USGS has taken over the archive and distribution of the US airborne data. They have been working for several years to clean up, document, and post data on-line free of charge. Please contact the USGS Pat Hill (pathill@usgs.gov 303 236-1343) for access to the desired surveys or visit the following USGS websites:
