Literature Surveillance Memos

Bi-weekly literature surveillance memos generated that identify relevant published research findings on pre-clinical experimental therapies for HIV, the opportunistic infections (OIs) associated with AIDS and other viral pathogens. Electronic databases currently searched include: Web of Science, Medline, Ebase (from Science Direct), Biosis, International Pharmaceutical Abstracts, AIDSLINE, and Scifinder (CAS provided by NIAID staff).

Anti-HIV / OI Chemical
Compound Database

This database contains over 159,500 compounds that have been tested against HIV, HIV enzymes or opportunistic pathogens. This database can be searched by chemical name or synonym, chemical or therapeutic class, the company that has tested or is developing the compound, CAS number, NSC number, molecular formula, or molectular weight.

All compounds are linked to the Anti-HIV in-vitro and enzyme databases as well as the anti-OI and bibliographic databases.

Anti-HIV
Cellular Data

This database contains over 166,100 lines of Anti-HIV in-vitro inhibitory data (EC50), tissue culture) linked to over 79,300 compounds.

The database was derived from the literature, patants and meeting abstracts and also contains cytotoxicity (IC50), therapeutic index (TI) and viral resistance data. All data is also linked to bibliographic references.

Anti-HIV Enzyme
Inhibition Data

This database contains over 47,000 lines of data linked to more than 25,007 compounds. The database was derived from literature, patents and meeting abstracts and contains inhibitory and enzymatic data (i.e. IC50, Ki, Km, etc.) on compounds tested against viral and relevant cellular enzymes and receptors.

The viral enzymes include reverse transcriptase (RT), protease (PR), and integrase (INTG). The cellular enzymes include DNA polymerases, proteases (i.e. pepsin, renin, etc.) cyclophillin and a number of protein kinases. The viral and cellular receptors include GP120, GP41, Tat, Rev, NCp7, CXCR4, CCR5, and CD4

Anti-Opportunistic
Infection Data

This database contains over 221,127 lines of data linked to more than 55,963 compounds. The database was derived from literature, government reports, patents, and meeting abstracts and contains in-vitro and enzymatic inhibitory data (i.e. MIC or EC50), cytotoxicity (IC50 or CC50) and in-vivo data on a variety of opportunistic pathogens.
The opportunistic pathogens include Mycomacterium tuberculosis, Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC), Pneumocystis carinii, Cryptococcus neoformans, Candida albicans, Toxoplasma gondii and Human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV). All data is also linked to bibliographic references.

HIV / OI
Bibliographic Database

This database contains over 10,725 references from the literature, patents and meeting abstracts. The database can be searched by either author, title, journal, patent number or year of publication. The references are linked to the chemical structure, anti-HIV in-vitro, and enzymatic data as well as data in the anti-opportunistic infection database.

Chemical / Therapeutics
Classes

This page contains a list of all the chemical and therapeutic classes used in the chemical compound database. The list is in alphabetical order and a compound can be listed under more than one class.

Compounds are classified on both a functional and structural basis. The compounds retreived from the list of classes are linked to anti-HIV and in-vitro and enzymatic data as well as anti-OI data.
