USAMU Soldiers win shooting matches

FORT BENNING, Ga. (TRADOC News Service, Sept. 23, 2005) – Soldiers of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit of Fort Benning, Ga., have scored some major victories this month.

USAMU international rifle shooter Pfc. Nicole M. Allaire won the sport rifle 300-meter national championship and took the bronze medal in the sport rifle prone match at the USA Shooting 300-meter national championships Sept. 14-18 at Fort Benning, Ga.

Sgt. 1st Class Jason A. Parker won gold medals in the three-position free rifle matches during both the USA Shooting 300-meter national championships and the interservice 300-meter championships, held concurrently at Fort Benning. He also gained a gold medal in the standard rifle championship of the interservice championships while earning a silver medal in the standard rifle championship portion of the USA Shooting championships.

Lt. Col. Robert E. Harbison received the silver medal in the three-position free rifle matches during the USA Shooting championships, a bronze in the standard rifle championship portion of the USA Shooting match and a bronze in the standard rifle championship of the interservice championships.

Sgt. 1st Class Thomas A. Tamas won the free rifle prone national championship at the USA Shooting championship and a silver medal in the free rifle prone portion of the interservice championships.

Sgt. Shane M. Barnhart earned a silver medal in the free rifle prone match of the USA Shooting competition.

Team USA captain Staff Sgt. Maxient “Max” J. Michel Jr. of USAMU took fourth place out of 290 of the world’s top shooters in the open division of the International Practical Shooting Confederation World Shoot in Guyaquil, Ecuador, Aug. 19-28. He was also a member of the gold-medal winning team.

Michel also won the state championship as well as the double tap championship in the U.S. Practical Shooting Association’s George State Championships in Gainesville, Ga., Aug. 13-15. He took second place overall in the U.S. Practical Shooting Association’s Area 8 Championships in Scottsdale, Pa., July 24-26.

Spc. Travis E. Tomasie took the bronze medal out of 287 competitors in the standard division of the world shoot in Ecuador.
