About Continuing Education for Practitioners Address changes you can control

Keep your contact information current. Eliminate processing delays and uncertainty. With the Registered Practitioner Sign In you gain full control over your mail and e-mail destinations and telephone numbers.

To use this feature you will need a unique user ID and a secure password. See below for details.

Why on-line Change of Address?

This feature gives you full control over your address information. By allowing practitioners to maintain their current telephone number, street and e-mail addresses:

  • we can eliminate processing errors,
  • we can reduce losses due to mailings to stale addresses, and
  • you should receive critical notices and confirmations when you need them.

Who can use the on-line Change of Address?

This feature is available only to registered practitioners who have been issued a valid user ID and password. You must have a valid mailing address on file to receive your user ID and password.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The user ID is not the same as your practitioner Registration Number.

What does it cost?

There is no charge for registered practitioners to use this on-line address change feature.

When to change addresses on-line

Please check and verify your mailing address information regularly. You must update your practitioner contact information within 30 days of any change (see 37 CFR 11.11). If we cannot reach you, you could lose your active practitioner status.

How to access the on-line Change of Address feature

Registered practitioners can access via the Registered Practitoner Sign-In button to the right or on the Patent Attorney/Agent Roster search page.

To use the system you will need two new pieces of information - a unique system user ID and a password. For security reasons, these two pieces of information differ from your Registration Number and are transmitted separately. Please do not share your user ID or passwords with others - they are your key to protecting the integrity of your data.

OED will send a letter containing your user ID to the address that is currently on file in the roster. After you respond to this letter, you will be sent password instructions.

You must have a valid mailing address on file to receive your user ID and password. If the mailing address on file at Patent Agent Attorney Roster is not accurate, you must use the printable Change of Address Form [PDF (download viewer)]  to request an address correction before we can mail your user ID.

How Do I Make Sure The Office Sends the Letter To My Current Address?

The official roster of registered patent attorneys and agents is located at Patent Attorneys/Agents Search.  A practitioner can enter his or her last name and obtain a list of all practitioners having the same last name.  By clicking on his or her own name, the practitioner can open a new window showing the current contact information for the practitioner.  If the contact information is correct, the practitioner need not update the information and the letter will be sent to that address.  If the information is not current, the practitioner should go to Change of Address Form [PDF], complete the address change form, and promptly mail the change of address form to Mailstop OED, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, P.O. Box 1450, Alexandria, Virginia 22313-1450.

What Should I Do If My Name Is Not Included In The Official Roster?

Practitioners who have been removed from the Roster of Patent Attorneys and Agents pursuant to 37 CFR 10.11(b) must apply for reinstatement to the roster.  Practitioners may request reinstatement by completing and filing the Reinstatement Data Sheet [PDF] and submitting the $40.00 fee for reinstatement processing. 37 CFR 1.21(a)(3).  The Reinstatement Data Sheet and fee should be submitted to: Mail Stop OED, U. S. Patent and Trademark Office, P. O. Box 1450, Alexandria, VA 22313-1450.  Practitioners whose names have been removed from the Roster of Patent Attorneys and Agents for more than five years must, in addition to completing and filing the Reinstatement Data Sheet [PDF] and submitting the $40.00 for reinstatement processing, take and pass the registration examination unless they submit a showing to the satisfaction of the Director of Enrollment and Discipline that they continue to possess the legal qualifications necessary to render patent applicants valuable service.  See the notice published in the Official Gazette at 1064 O.G. 12.
