Middlefork Fire Crosses Park Boundary

The Middlefork Fire, started by a lightning strike on the Rogue National Forest, crossed the Crater Lake National Park boundary on September 18, 2008. It is currently burning in the remote southwest corner of the park. There are no threats to park structures or visitors at this time.  As a safety precaution, the park is closed to to the public south of Highway 62.  The remainder of the park is open.

The park is taking all of the necessary actions to suppress the fire.  Favorable weather conditions have been helping in this effort.

The Middlefork Fire is part of the Lonesome Fire Complex. Further updates will be issued as conditions change.
