Privacy Policy Statement

Of the information we learn about you from your visit to http://www.nidcr.nih.gov we store only the following: the domain name from which you access the Internet, the date and time you access our site, and the Internet address of the web site from which you direct-linked to our site. This information is used to measure the number of visitors to various sections of our site and to help us make our site more useful to visitors. Unless it is specifically stated otherwise, no additional information will be collected about you.  

When inquiries are e-mailed to us, we store the question and the e-mail address information so that we can respond electronically. Unless otherwise required by statute, we do not identify publicly who sends questions or comments to our web site. We will not obtain information that will allow us to personally identify you when you visit our site, unless you choose to provide such information to us.

ACSI Survey

Federal government web sites are generally prohibited from using persistent cookies.  The only exception to this policy is in the case of customer satisfaction surveys conducted to improve web site quality.  The NIDCR web site is currently running the American Customer Satistfaction Index (ACSI) survey, which employs persistent cookies.  These cookies will reside on a user's computer for 30 days to block the repeated appearance of the survey to individuals who responded to it previously. 

Cookies will not:

  • Collect any information about the visitors
  • Track the Web surfing activities of visitors
  • Indicate whether a visitor answered any questions
  • Link a particular visitor to any response or set of responses. The authority for this record collection is provided by 42 U.S.C. 203, 241, 2891-1 and 42 U.S.C. 3101, and Section 301 of the Public Health Act.


  • Participation in the American Customer Satisfaction Index survey is completely voluntary, and failure to repsond will not affect a visitor's ability to access information on www.nidcr.nih.gov.

Kids' Privacy

Thank you for visiting the NIDCR Web site. We hope you have done so with the help of a parent or teacher because that is one of the best ways to explore the Internet and make sure that the sites you visit are educational and fun.

We are very interested in what you have to say. If you write to us or ask us a question, we use your e-mail address from your message to respond to you. It is up to you whether or not you tell us who you are. But please make sure it is okay with a parent or guardian before you do—and any other time you provide information online. If you are not sure it is okay with them, you can always come back and visit the site later, when you have their permission. While we cannot respond to your message without your e-mail address, you can still write to us and visit the Web site without providing any information about yourself.
