Vactor/Eductor Trucks

Eductor trucks vacuum stormwater, wastewater and associated solids into a tank located on a truck for transport and disposal. They are generally known as "vactor" trucks, which references a particular brand name.

The photo below shows a King County Department of Transportation vactor truck discharging contaminated stormwater at the county's Renton decant station.

Generally vactor trucks are used to clean stormwater drainage systems. The solids associated with cleaning these systems may be high in heavy metals and/or petroleum hydrocarbons and should be disposed of in an acceptable manner.

Decanting the liquid portion of contaminated stormwater into the King County sewer system requires written authorization from the King County Industrial Waste Program. Decanting into ordinary manholes is illegal and dangerous to sewer workers. You may obtain information from:

There are several private operators and governmental agencies authorized to decant stormwater liquids within the county:

The King County Department of Transportation operates Regional Stormwater Decant Stations in Renton and Shoreline. For access to these facilities call 206-296-8219.

The City of Bellevue also allows decanting into three city-owned decant stations by trucks doing work within the Bellevue city limits. Contact the City of Bellevue at 425-452-7946.
