Mission Statement:
- Plans and conducts research investigations into the molecular, physiological, pharmacological, developmental, anatomical, and chemical properties of the nervous system in experimental animals, and the acute and chronic effects of alcohol administration and withdrawal on those properties;
- investigates the molecular and cellular basis of alcohol's behavioral actions, and the pathophysiologic mechanisms associated with alcohol abuse and alcoholism;
- studies the neuroadaptive mechanisms involved in the processes of tolerance and dependence;
- supervises and trains research investigators in the techniques utilized to conduct the investigations carried out by the Laboratory; and
- collaborates with other components of the Institute, NIH, other federal agencies, universities, and other scientific institutions in the conduct of investigations carried out by the Laboratory.
