Pest Control Operator Regulation

The King County Structural Pest Control Regulation

Public Health - Seattle & King County registers and regulates businesses engaged in structural pest control, (i.e. businesses doing extermination or fumigation). Public Health also licenses and regulates master pest control operators. So any business that applies pesticides indoors is required to register with the Environmental Health Division of Public Health - Seattle & King County.

For the business applications

Requirements

Applications should contain the following information: Name of business; Mailing address; Location of business; Whether the applicant is an individual, firm or corporation and if a partnership, the name and addresses of the business; the type of pest control operation; the name of the master structural pesticide applicator and a copy of their current licenses (King County or Washington Department of Agriculture); a signed statement from the master structural pesticide applicator attesting that he or she shall be available for the direct supervision of all licensed operators employed by the business; a copy of the surety bond or liability insured policy that conforms with Washington regulations; the signature of the applicant; and the annual registration fee.

Annual renewal of structural business registration expires annually on December 31st but shall be renewed on completion of the application and payment of the fee.

FIFRA Standards for Pesticide Containers

New FIFRA Standards for Pesticide Containers Effective October 16, 2006 EPA recently finalized regulations for the storage and disposal of pesticides pursuant to the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act ("FIFRA"). 71 Fed. Reg. 47330 (Aug. 16, 2006). The final rule establishes requirements for pesticide container design, and procedures, standards and label language to facilitate removal of pesticides from containers prior to disposal or recycling. The rule also establishes requirements for containment of stationary pesticide containers and procedures for container refilling operations. The pesticide storage and disposal regulations become effective October 16, 2006.
