Description Project to provide facilitation for the break-out sessions of the Offshore Hurricane Readiness & Recovery Conference and prepare a report capturing the findings, issues, and opportunities to improve that are identified by the conference.
Progress The Offshore Hurricane Readiness & Recovery Conference, co-sponsored by MMS, was held July 26-27, 2005 in Houston, Texas. The conference brought industry and government together to share and learn from the experiences of Hurricane Ivan to improve future performance and reliability of offshore operations in the Gulf of Mexico.

The first day agenda included a series of presentations and panel discussions on Hurricane Ivan experiences and topics including:

bullet Performance of Drilling Rigs, Production Facilities and Pipelines
bullet Best Practices Sharing for Readiness Planning
bullet Metocean & Geotechnical Conditions in Hurricane Ivan
bullet Best Practices Sharing for Readiness Planning

The second day agenda included three simultaneous break-out sessions on:

bullet Drilling Rigs
bullet Platform/Production Facilities
bullet Pipelines

and included:

bullet Presentations on the observed impacts
bullet Identifying key observations and lessons learned
bullet Identifying opportunities to improve relative to:
bullet Technology
bullet Design practices
bullet Operational practices
bullet Regulations and standards

OTRC provided facilitation for the break-out sessions of the Offshore Hurricane Readiness & Recovery Conference to help identify and capture of key observations, lessons learned, and identification of opportunities for improvement. The final report, documenting conference activities, reports, and findings, is expected to be provided to MMS in January 2006 and made available to the public by mid-February 2006. The final report (and appendices) capturing conference events, discussions, and ideas for improvements is provided in the Reports Section below.
