Dr. Forney presently serves as a Computer Scientist in the Fire Research Division. He is interested in developing tools that provide a better understanding of fire phenomena. His background in numerical analysis and scientific program development helps him to interact with other scientists so that theories for physical processes can be translated into workable computer algorithms. He is interested in the numerical and physical behavior of these algorithms so that better computer simulations can be constructed. He is also interested in using the world wide web (see Fire on the Web at: http://fire.nist.gov) as a means for communicating our research to those that need it. Before joining NIST, Dr. Forney worked at Mobil Research and Development Corporation providing numerical analysis support for a large (200,000 lines) black-oil simulator. This simulator was used to decide how best to recover oil from an oil reservoir |
