The Special Topics Discussion List

Welcome to the Adult Literacy Special Topics discussion list, a service of the National Institute for Literacy. This discussion forum is moderated by David J. Rosen, Ed.D., Senior Associate, Newsome Associates. From 1986 – 2003 Dr. Rosen was the Director of the Adult Literacy Resource Institute at the University of Massachusetts Boston. He was the founder and moderator of the National Literacy Advocacy electronic list for ten years. Recently he has moderated three research panel discussions, which are being made into streaming video and DVDs available from the National Institute for Literacy. These include: the Adult Reading Components Study (ARCS) , the GED and Earnings Outcomes, and Persistence in Adult Literacy Education.

The purpose of the Special Topics list is to provide opportunities throughout the year for focused discussion topics with invited researchers and other experts in the field of adult education and literacy (including English language learning and numeracy). This is an intermittent discussion list. The topics open and close throughout the year, so there are periods when there will be no discussion or postings. You can subscribe to the discussion list for a particular topic of interest, and then unsubscribe, or you can stay subscribed throughout the year.
