WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Carl and Ruth Shapiro Family Foundation, based in Boston, MA, recently became a Pillar of Memory with a second gift of $1 million to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This gift will support the Museum's Web site translation efforts. The Shapiro family are long-time Museum supporters, having joined the Museum's Founders Society—donors who have given at least $1 million to the Museum—in 1995.

"The need to educate people worldwide about this history and the dangers of antisemitism has never been greater," says Ronny Zinner, President of the Carl and Ruth Shapiro Family Foundation. "The Museum stands as a bulwark against those who would deny or minimize the Holocaust, wherever they live, and the Carl and Ruth Shapiro Family Foundation is proud to support its vital work."

In 2007, the Museum's Web site had more than 23 million visitors from every country except North Korea. Portions of the site have been translated into Arabic, Farsi, Chinese, Urdu, Russian, Spanish, and French. Turkish and Portuguese translations are in development.

"Therefore, it is crucial to be able to provide comprehensive and accurate information on the Holocaust in the native language of millions of non-English speaking people.
