NEW: In opposition: the work of Sudanese human rights lawyer Salih Osman Mahmoud
Salih Osman Mahmoud has risked his life to improve the human rights situation in Sudan. A native of Darfur, he worked on human rights issues in that region before joining Parliament as a member of the opposition.

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former Secretary of Defense William Cohen announced in November 2007 that they would co-chair a Genocide Prevention Task Force jointly convened by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, the American Academy of Diplomacy, and the United States Institute of Peace. The Task Force will generate practical recommendations to enhance the U.S. government's capacity to respond to emerging threats of genocide and mass atrocities.

Statement by the USHMM on the arrest of Bosnian Serb War Crimes Suspect Radovan Karadzic
Thirteen years after the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia indicted former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic for genocide and crimes against humanity, he was arrested and faces extradition to the Tribunal in the Hague. The Museum welcomes the arrest of the long time fugitive Karadzic, wanted on genocide charges for allegedly organizing the 1995 massacre of 8,000 Muslims in Srebrenica and other atrocities of the Bosnian war.
