There are training opportunities at the intramural program of NIDA for individuals at all levels of education and training and are grouped under Student Programs, Post-doctoral Programs, and the Scholars Program. Student training programs include the summer internship program (for high school through graduate and medical school), post-baccalaureate programs for students who have finished college and wish to gain research experience before applying to graduate school, and pre-doctoral programs for students enrolled in graduate or medical school. Information about the Student Training Programs can be found at www.training.nih.gov or by contacting Dr. Heishman. Post-doctoral training programs include the post-doctoral IRTA, Visiting Fellow (for non-U.S. citizens), and Research Fellow. Contact Lena Eads (410-550-1509) or Fay Polcak (410-550-1489) for information on the post-doctoral programs. The NIDA Scholars Program is for outstanding post-doctoral students within 5 years of their doctoral degree who show excellent promise as independent investigators. Successful candidates will spend 2-4 years at the NIDA IRP and can then apply for a 2-year K22 award to launch their career at an extramural institution. Initial inquiries about the Scholars Program should be directed to Dr. Heishman.
