Collaborative Competencies - 3 days
Develop essential skills in communication, collaboration, negotiation, and conflict management for environmental and natural resource managers.
Introduction to Managing Environmental Conflict - 2 days
Develop awareness of facets of conflict management including: Interest-Based Negotiation, convening and organizing, communications survival skills, complexity of Multi-Party Negotiation, and systematic evaluation of environmental conflict management.
Laying the Groundwork for Effective Government-to-Government Consultation - 3 days
Develop awareness of key concepts of government-to-government consultation and principles for building trust between sovereigns; learn different ways to manage information, communication, decision-making, roles and responsibilities. Deepen appreciation for tribal preferences, the meaning of cultural and sacred sites; and of how historic events and federal Indian policies have shaped government-to-government relationships.
Intermediate
Collaboration in NEPA - 2.5 days
Learn how to integrate more effective collaboration in the environmental planning process under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), focusing on planning and design to extend guidance from the President’s Council on Environmental Quality’s Handbook on Collaboration and NEPA.
Advanced
Advanced Multi-Party Negotiation of Environmental Disputes - 2.5 days
Apply principles of interest-based negotiation, self-awareness and group dynamics to complex multi-party negotiations to resolve environmental disputes and maximize sustainable solutions. Assess your strengths and areas for improvement in communication, relationship building and conflict style.
Facilitative Leadership in ECR - 2 days
Improve your ability to: analyze complex environmental problems; organize steps, people and information; read other people and appreciate their needs, opinions and agendas; speak and listen effectively, adapt your communication styles; invent solutions in real time; know when to intervene, transition to new issue, and when to bring closure.
