MATERIAL SERVICES/Shipping and Receiving

Shipping

Location: Bldg 69
Hours: 8:00am- 4:00pm
Phone: (510) 486-5084
Fax: (510) 486-5667

The Shipping function at Building 69 is responsible for shipping material and correspondence from the Laboratory. An LBNL Shipping Document (7600-55567), available from Stores or Shipping, must accompany all material leaving the lab. Material requiring next day delivery in the U.S. or two day delivery Internationally, must be dropped off at Building 69 before 3:00 pm. Employees are encouraged to log onto the Procurement Home Page for instructions on how to send letters and small packages direct from a desk PC. An On-Site FedEx drop box is located in front of the Building 50 Auditorium.

For large and/or fragile shipments, the Laboratory uses several freight forwarders depending on time frame, destination, and special handling requirements. For International shipments, the Laboratory utilizes a customs brokerage for both outgoing and incoming non-domestic freight. Chemicals may be shipped with proper documentation. LBNL Shipping is available to help prepare outgoing shipments and to provide cost effective solutions to all of your shipping needs. For all questions regarding shipping and material tracking, contact Chuck Horton at ext. 5084.

# 1 Cyclotron Road, Building 69 is designated as the Central Receiving address for the Laboratory. All items ordered through LBNL Procurement and divisional field buyers are processed at and distributed from Central Receiving by way of Transportation. This includes all material ordered through Oracle, Pcard or from Systems Contracts such as Boise and VWR. Buyers are encouraged to request from vendors that the actual requester name and mail stop be included on their "deliver to" address, affixed to the outside of the package.

All sensitive items, including computers arriving at Central Receiving, require a signature from the requester at time of delivery by LBNL Transportation.

Arriving FedEx and other premium shipments are processed each morning for same day delivery by LBNL Transportation to all Lab wide destinations. If you are expecting a package and would like a personal notification when it arrives, please call the Receiving office at ext. 4935. Routine deliveries are processed and delivered within one business day. Items requiring refrigeration will be delivered to agreed upon holding areas. If a freezer package is undeliverable or arrives late at Central Receiving, the addressee will be called before 4:00pm.
