Welcome to the Graduate School, USDA! We are a non-appropriated fund instrumentality (NAFI) government entity created 85 years ago by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide adult continuing education. Our mission is to develop people and to make government more efficient and effective.
As the world leader in meeting our customers’ development and training needs, we offer a wide variety of classes and programs, ranging from government-based specialties such as governmental accounting and auditing, human capital management and acquisition to foreign languages, economics, leadership and landscape design. The School annually serves 200,000 participants in nearly 1,000 courses, including 300 evening and weekend courses.
As the Graduate School has evolved, we have retained our commitment to operate as a self-sustaining institution, to respond to the changing needs of government, and to design and manage our programs to be timely and always practical. As I said at our recent annual instructor reception, our 85-year journey has seen much change and enormous growth. However, our philosophy remains the same—a belief in the great benefits that derive from adults working together and learning from one another.
To extend our reach both locally and globally, the Graduate School has embraced educational media new to adult continuing education. These include formats beyond the traditional instructor-led classroom and correspondence programs. We provide condensed seminars, on-site workshops, distance learning, online training, and satellite, video and computer-enhanced learning.
