Since the beginning of
NIH's involvement in AIDS research, it became obvious that documentation
of the research effort would have historical import. This image archive
includes material from the collections of the many institutes and
offices at NIH involved with AIDS research.
Most of the material was developed and produced under government
auspices and is, therefore, in the public domain--there is no copyright,
and no permission is required for its use. We have included a clearly
indicated credit line for the exceptions, where organizations or
private individuals have kindly granted a one-time use of their
material for this Web site. Any images of AIDS study volunteers
are provided with the permission of those individuals, who chose
to contribute to the effort by giving the research volunteers a
face.
