Third-Party MOBILE Training

This page provides information about MOBILE training sessions. This information was gathered from responses by subscribers of EPA's MOBILENEWS listserver.

We have received information on four (4) such training programs.  The descriptions sent to us are copied below in alphabetical order.  For more information on these sessions, contact the organizers listed.

Please note, EPA has no additional information on the training sessions described below and has not evaluated them in any way.  The training contact information is provided simply as a service to MOBILE users and is not meant as a recommendation of the training.

Trainers with information on additional MOBILE training should contact EPA MOBILE staff by email: mobile@epa.gov. We will keep a running list of training courses and make it available upon request.

Thank you for your interest in the MOBILE model.

Eastern Research Group provides MOBILE6 training for general as well as technical audiences.  The curricula include input and output file formats, development of local inputs and external files, and model calculation methodology and sensitivity.

The course is taught by Sandeep Kishan who has over 15 years experience in emission factor modeling, using both the MOBILE and California models.  He recently led the Alpha Testing effort for MOBILE6 under contract with EPA.  Sandeep has developed many international versions of the MOBILE model and conducted training for previous models in the US, Thailand, and Mexico.

Three courses are offered varying in length from 2 hours to 2 days (an Executive Overview Course for 2 hours, a one-day General Audience Course for 6 hours, and a two-day Intensive User (Computer Course) for 12 hours).  These three courses are offered on request.

The Eastern Resource Center (FHWA) offers a two-day course entitled "Mobile Source Emissions Factor Modeling".  This course addresses the basic theory and concepts behind EPA’s vehicle emission factor models, MOBILE5/6, including the models’ structures, inputs, transportation/emission model integration. Provides hands on experience to run MOBILE6 software on PC environment.  The course is offered by request with no fee.

The course is taught by Dr. Joon Ho Byun, (Air Quality Modeling Specialist) who has earned a Ph.D. in Transportation Planning and Engineering (1978) and has more than 20 years experience in the field of transportation planning, air quality modeling and traffic engineering.

Lakes Environmental Software offers a one-day MOBILE training course.  This course covers:

The course is offered on request.  The next expected course date is Spring 2002.

The course is taught by Dr. Jesse L. Thé, Ph.D.  He is a mechanical engineer with 15 years of experience in thermal fluid applications.  Dr. Thé received his Doctoral degree in 1993 from the University of Waterloo, where he worked with computational fluid dynamics and the numerical prediction of environmental fluids.  He is the president and founding partner of Lakes Environmental Software and has been a reviewer of the United States Environmental Protection Agency - APTI Courses.  Dr. Thé is the main author of the commercial software packages:

ISC-AERMOD View, BPIP View, Screen View, SLAB View, and
