[Netscape server] would not run a script this morning. Author ran the script through "perl -wc" as recommended. It came back telling her that there was an error at line 417. When we "vi"ed the file and went to line 417 we discovered that line 417 was a "die" statement at the bottom of the main routine. As you know "die" produces an abnormal termination return code which the netscape server tests. So the Netscape server sends an error message to the browser. [author] deleted the "die" statement and [then] It worked fine. Bottom line - "die" is for abnormal termination.
perl -pi.bak -e 's/OLDSTRING/NEWSTRING/g' FILELIST
From "Programming Perl", by Wall and Schwartz, page 227:
perl -e 'print reverse <>' FILES
will take one or more concatenated files (or stdin) and print
all of the lines in reverse order from beginning to end.
FILES must file in memory.
For example,
perl -e 'print reverse <>' /etc/motd
