Tonsil and Adenoid Surgery is a preoperative teaching program focusing on one the most common pediatric surgical procedures. The program teaches patients and family members basic anatomy and function, surgical techniques, risks, benefits and postoperative care. This Windows based interactive CD ROM program employs a virtual environment to immerse patients in the learning process. This allows patients to prepare for their upcoming procedure in the virtual world, before it's performed in real life. To further enhance the learning process, patients are quizzed throughout the program as a means of reinforcing important points with remediation given as appropriate. This assures providers that patients have an understanding of the important principles regarding their upcoming procedure. Patients also benefit from the experience of others via videotaped patient interviews.
