GSA Inks Updated Telework PolicyGSA # 10487 April 14, 2008
WASHINGTON – The U.S. General Services Administration today announced a new telework policy that will help GSA meet Administrator Lurita Doan’s goal to have 50 percent of the agency’s eligible workforce teleworking at least one or more days a week by the end 2010. The new policy emphasizes human capital management, information technology components and employee telework agreements. In addition, a fund has been established to absorb the costs for employees wishing to use alternative worksites. “This policy adds additional structure and will ensure broad participation across GSA,” said Administrator Doan. “Our success is important because it will demonstrate the benefits of telework to the entire federal government.” The new policy supports the Administrator’s challenge to increase GSA’s telework participation, strengthens GSA’s governmentwide leadership role, helps to execute continuity of operations plans (COOP), and contributes to the success of GSA’s environmental initiatives. “Telework works, and this policy will move us closer to our goal,” Doan said. “The telework seeds are taking root across GSA and flourishing; we hope our results will convince our sister agencies to move forward as well.” Administrator Doan has made telework one of GSA’s top priorities, naming veteran GSA human resources expert, Bill Kelly, as GSA’s telework champion and senior coordinator of the agency’s telework efforts, improving internal communications involving GSA’s telework options, and providing guidance to other agencies regarding telework best practices. ###
