ANACAPA ISLAND, Channel Islands National Park, CA

Description:

Twelve miles from the California mainland, a 5-mile-long spine of rock emerges from the ocean, breaks into three islets, and offers itself as home to 265 species of plants and a bevy of seabirds - with the largest brown pelican rookery in the Unites States. The island features bird rookeries, Chumash middens, giant coreopsis, tidepools, kelp forests, sea caves, and arches. Altitude: sea level to 250 feet. Alerts and Important Information

  • Boat transportation arrangements to island required BEFORE making campsite reservation.
  • No more than 2 campsites can be reserved at one time; no more than 14 days total per year.
  • Campsites must be reserved prior to arrival on the island. There are NO walk-ups at this facility.
  • 154 stairs and half-mile hike to campground. Must carry all gear.
  • Primitive camping, vault toilets. Bring low profile tents, own water and extra food for weather delays.
  • No shelters. No beach camping or off-trail hiking.
  • Tent A sites - maximum of 4 people. Tent B sites - maximum of 6 people
  • Food storage lockers available.
  • Smoking allowed only on paved areas.
  • To protect resources, no cardboard or corrugated boxes can be brought to the island
  • No stores or services on island. No pets or vehicles allowed.
  • No fires, campstoves only. No charcoal or BBQ allowed.
  • Firearms or fireworks not allowed on the island
  • Quiet hours from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.
  • Fishing is not allowed from the island. Contact ranger for fishing regulations.
  • Kayakers: ocean conditions can rapidly change, requiring expert abilities.
  • Hantavirus in mice, take precautions to reduce exposure to rodents.
  • Upon arrival, meet ranger (if available) at landing dock or visitor center. Please have confirmation letter or receipt with you.
6 people per site maximum. Huckleberry Cabin sleeps 4 - small tent site for 2 people. Bring your own bedding and mattress, bedding and mattress NOT provided. Parking is limited. NO motor homes or trailers allowed. Bring your own padlock if you want the cabin locked while you're gone. Check-in and Check-out times are firm. No early arrival or late stay is permitted.
