Sea Surface Temperature Anomaly is the amount the Sea Surface Temperature differs from the normal value for the month (in degrees Centigrade).

• La Niña, a colder-than-normal event, is indicated by blue colors in the plot.
• Normal conditions are indicated by green color in the plots.
• El Niño, a warmer-than-normal event, is indicated by red colors in the plot.

The data are from the Reynolds Sea Surface Temperature (SST) analysis from the National Center for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) for the entire Pacific Ocean (70N to 70S).
