King County believes it’s important for you to have the tools available to plan your financial future, which is why we’ve created this Web site.

How to avoid the "Readiness Gap"

Dear friend,

Will you have enough health and wealth in retirement to live the life you want to live?

That question is intended to challenge you, not scare you. We all know what a busy world it is. Taking time now to think about how the future will look to you and your family might seem like an exercise in futility. After all, who can tell what your days will be like in 5, 10 or 20 years? But there are things we do know. Recent studies from reputable sources describe social and economic trends that all point to a less-than-satisfactory retirement for unprepared baby boomers. The bottom line: too many of us are not saving or planning ahead for the days when our lives – and our needs – will be very different from today.

I'm calling it the “Readiness Gap.”
