EPA's Efforts to Protect Bees

Note to Reader:

Recent news articles have inaccurately portrayed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s efforts to protect bees. Even before the phenomenon of Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) was documented, the Agency was actively working on multiple fronts to address pollinator protection through regulatory, voluntary, and research programs. An extensive amount of information is available to the public regarding this issue and, in particular, the pesticide clothianidin. Please see below a link to EPA’s response to NRDC summarizing our efforts along with a list of several websites containing an extensive amount of information on these issues.

OPP is working to respond to current Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests on this issue. Any public statements that indicate EPA is "refusing to disclose records" are erroneous. EPA’s Office of Pesticide Programs operates in the public eye and values stakeholder participation as it carries out its important mission to protect public health and the environment.
