Current Research
My primary research interests are in
- forecast verification
- the use of numerical models in weather forecasting,
particuarly ensemble techniques
- the modelling and forecasting of hazardous weather associated
with thunderstorms
- the application of new ideas to the problems of weather
forecasting, particularly the use of
probabilistic concepts
- the verification of weather forecasts, e.g.,
maximum temperature forecasts from
NWSFO Norman.
- environmental conditions associated with various kinds of
hazardous thunderstorms.
Educational activities
I'm involved in educational outreach in
- teaching a course on forecast evaluation
at the University of Oklahoma
- speaking at the Summer Severe Weather Coordinators' Workshop
of the Atmospheric Environment Service of Enviroment Canada
- various interactions with elementary and secondary students
around the country
