NRC STAFF TO MEET WITH ENTERGY OPERATIONS,
INC. TO DISCUSS |
||
Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials will meet with representatives of Entergy Operations, Inc. on Thursday, Feb. 17, in Russellville, Ark., to discuss the results of the agency’s third inspection of the Arkansas Nuclear One license renewal program for Unit 2. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in Room 347 of the Generation Support Building, at the plant site located at the junction of Hwy. 64A and Hwy. 333 South, in Russellville. It will be open to public observation and NRC officials will be available prior to the close of the meeting to answer questions from the public. A report on the inspection will be issued approximately 45 days after the meeting and will be available to the public. NRC held a public meeting in December on the results of its first two inspections of the license renewal program for Unit 2. "The inspections are a key part of NRC’s review process to verify that licensees have programs in place to identify and manage the effects of aging on the plant’s systems, structures and components during the 20 additional years of operation prior to a final decision on license renewal applications," said NRC Region IV administrator Bruce S. Mallett. The NRC received the license renewal application for Unit 2 on Oct. 15, 2003. If approved, it would extend the operating license for Unit 2 to July 17, 2038. The NRC has already approved an extension of the operating license for Unit 1 until May 20, 2034. |
