NRC ISSUES CONFIRMATORY ACTION LETTER TO EASTON, PA., MEDICAL FIRM |
||
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued a Confirmatory Action Letter to an Easton, Pa., medical company that provides nuclear medicine services. The letter confirms the company's agreement to halt all NRC-licensed activities until it takes several actions to adhere to agency regulations. In the letter to Advanced Medical Imaging and Nuclear Services, the NRC states that the agency's Region I office conducted an initial inspection of the firm's facility at 3729 Easton-Nazareth Highway in Easton on November 30. The aim of the inspection was to review activities authorized by an NRC license issued to the company on February 16. During the inspection, the NRC determined that since June, the firm had been conducting activities without an Authorized User (of nuclear materials) or Radiation Safety Officer, as required by its NRC license. Advanced Medical Imaging and Nuclear Services agreed during a telephone call with NRC staff on December 3 to take the following actions in response: it will immediately place all NRC-licensed nuclear materials in its possession in secure storage and cease all licensed activities until it has hired an NRC-approved Authorized User and Radiation Safety Officer; it will submit a license amendment request that will include changes necessary to bring the program into full compliance with licensing commitments and regulations; and its new Radiation Safety Officer will submit to the NRC, within 30 days, a report on the status of the program. |
