PETER J. ALTER ASSIGNED NRC SENIOR RESIDENT INSPECTOR FOR RIVER BEND STATION


The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission has assigned Peter J. Alter as the Senior Resident Inspector at the River Bend Station, a nuclear power plant near St. Francisville, La., operated by the Entergy Operations, Inc. Mr. Alter assumes his post on June 18.

Mr. Alter graduated from Saint Francis College in Biddeford, Maine, with a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and secondary education. He taught high school mathematics in Madison, Maine.

In August, 1971, Mr. Alter joined the U. S. Navy's nuclear power program. He served aboard the USS Casimir Pulaski (SSBN 633) and was an instructor at the General Electric Prototype (S1C) in Windsor Locks, Conn.

Following Naval service, Mr. Alter was a senior reactor operator instructor for more than 13 years at General Physics Corporation. During that time he taught at nine different boiling water reactors throughout New York and New England. In June 1992, he joined Northeast Utilities Service Company and worked as an operator requalification training program instructor at Millstone Unit One in Waterford, Conn.

In January 1998, Mr. Alter joined the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and has served as the Resident Inspector at Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in Port Gibson, Miss. for the last three years.

Mr. Alter resides in the St. Francisville area with his wife Becky. They have three grown children, Katherine, Janet and William.
