NRC NAMES NEW CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Anthony J. Galante, an experienced corporate information services executive, as its Chief Information Officer (CIO).

Mr. Galante had a 28-year career with Mobil Corporation, most recently as Acting General Manager for Information Systems at its offices in Fairfax, Virginia. Before serving in that position from 1994 to 1996, he held a number of other high-level management positions responsible for both corporate and international information systems planning, strategic cost reduction operations, large scale project management and computer applications development.

Mr. Galante will report directly to Chairman Shirley Ann Jackson and will be responsible for information management and agency-wide strategic planning and deployment of information technology.

As Chief Information Officer, Mr. Galante will serve with the NRC Chief Financial Officer and the Executive Director for Operations on the NRC's Executive Council, which is chaired by the Executive Director for Operations. The Executive Council, established as part of recent management restructuring, will provide a comprehensive agency-wide foundation for accomplishing NRC's mission.

Mr. Galante has been a member of the American Petroleum Institute Information Systems Committee, the Hewlett-Packard Global Advisory Board, and IBM's Information Systems Customer Advisory Council. He graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a B.S. degree in Accounting in 1965 and an M.B.A. degree in Taxation in 1969. He is a native of northern New Jersey.
